What I find remarkable about this opening setup is (and I don't think there's ever been a precedent in Atlas Risk) it seems like no one has a clear shot to take and hold any region at all, and even an attempt (without uncommon good luck) would fatally overextend most players.

Certainly hope tmth will be able to rejoin the game/Forum soon. Also that Marokai's forces all spontaneously combust.

Put all 3 on NY, giving me a total of 19 there, 18 to attack with. Attack CT, do or die. Then, attack MA so long as I have 14 or greater attacking. Once that number or anything below it is hit, tactical move everything back to NY and call it a day. (On the off-chance that CT on its own manages to reduce my NY garrison down to 14, stop attacking and await further orders. On the more optimistic off-chance that MA is taken outright, same thing.)

EDIT: If it's not too late to change this, keep a force of 3 on CT (so that there are 11/10 in NY depending on how the dice-rolling works out). This assumes that nothing detailed in the last two sentences of the preceding paragraph occurs.

Looks like the only thing you had to stand up to my tanks with was Scott Brown's truck Grin

I hope I got that correct.  Those orders were a little... hard to follow.

Gotta cover every possibility, you know Wink

And yes, Joe, you interpreted everything completely correctly. Now, continuing on to Vermont, attack until I have 12 (or fewer) battalions standing, at which point tactical move all of them (leaving one in MA, that means 11 or 10) to NY and end turn Smiley

Swag! That's 16 enemy battalions killed over the course of that move (1 BK, 15 Maro) with just 3 casualties Grin

Keep it up, Joe.

2 on CT, 1 on NY. Attack CT-RI, do or die. Attack NY-VT; on the off chance there are 7 or more casualties, stop and await further orders. If there are fewer than 7 casualties incurred when taking VT and RI has been taken, tactical move all VT battalions to NY and end turn. If there are fewer than 7 casualties incurred when taking VT and RI has not been taken, then tactical move all VT battalions to MA and end turn. Covered a lot of very unlikely possibilities there, but you can never be too careful.

Thanks, Joe Smiley

Put them all on NY, for a total of 18 battalions in that state. Leaving 9 battalions behind in NY, attack do-or-die with the other 9 battalions, NY-PA-OH-MI-WI. Once either that run or those 9 battalions are exhausted (assuming that, at minimum, I have conquered OH), end turn and tactical move everything RI-CT.

Thanks Joe Smiley

This has been quite the remarkable round.

Before that I thought you had a fair chance to reestablish yourself as a Pacific power...

Preface: Sorry, Marokai.

Put everything on WI. Attack, do-or-die, WI-MN-SD-WY-ID-NV-CA. Assuming I have taken at least one state, tactical move CT-NY and end turn. Thank you, Joe.

I suppose I deserved that little spate of bad luck after my consistent good luck in the first three Rounds. Now for BK's attempt...

Trading in a couple of cards:

That should give me an extra 10 (for a total of 17 wherever I want), along with 2 each on Vermont and Minnesota.

Put all 17 on Minnesota, making it a total of 20 battalions in that state. Attack, do-or-die, MN-ND-MT-ID-OR-CA-NV. (Sorry, BK. If I succeed. Otherwise, damn you Tongue) At the end of that run, tactical move VT-NY, which should leave me with a total of 14 battalions in that state. (If I've misinterpreted anything regarding how cards work, don't attack anything, explain my mistake, and let me reconsider. But I took the time to reread the rules after tmth's mishap, so I think I'm set.)

Also, as an aside, I'll be going on a family vacation March 21-30. Internet access will exist during this time, but it may be very sporadic. I hope I won't hold up the game much, but if I do by a few days I apologize for it in advance Sad

And thanks for having the game in the first place, Joe, you're the best.

After some reflection, I've come to the conclusion that not taking the move I am about to would serve only to delay the game and lead to Hagrid eventually overwhelming me with superior force of numbers with Franzl's/Marokai's cards anyway. Sorry, tmth. Obviously if this fails the game is over, and much faster than it would've been otherwise, but there's no reward for holding out longer.

I'd like to trade in the following card set:

This should give me an extra 10 battalions, plus 2 in Montana. Of my total 19 reinforcements, please put 5 on Idaho, 3 on New York, and 11 on Nevada, for a total of 6 in Idaho, 17 on New York, and 21 on Nevada. At that point, do-or-die the following attack sequences:

ID-WA
NY-NJ-DE-MD-VA-NC
NV-CA-AZ-UT-CO-NM-TX

If that was all successful, stop and end turn. If any part of that was unsuccessful, I guess attack MT-WY in a futile gesture, curse, and then end turn. Thank you, Joe Smiley

I'd like to trade in my infantry cards of SC, LA, and ME, which give 4 extra battalions, or 12 total. Please distribute 7 on MT, 3 on CT, and 2 on ID. Attack, do-or-die, ID-WA; MT-WY-CO-OK-AR-TN; and CT-NY. Then tactical move ME-NH and end turn. Thank you, Joe Smiley

Apparently your honesty resulted in some good karma in your subsequent dice rolls!

Excellent Cheesy

Of those 10, let's go 6 on NY, 4 on ID. Attack ID-WA, do-or-die. If I take it, tactical move NH-MA and end turn. If I fail, attack TN-GA do-or-die, then tactical move NH-MA and end turn. If that fails too, stop and await further orders, I guess. Thanks, Joe Smiley

I'll be trading in my North Carolina, Virginia, and Washington cards, generating 2 battalions on Washington and 10 more to go anywhere, for 18 total. Of those 18, put 6 on NY, 6 on OH, 4 on ID, and 2 on SD. Attack, do-or-die, WA-OR-NV and OH-KY-TN-AR. If that's all successful, tactical move MA-NY and end turn. If not, stop and await further orders. Thanks Joe Smiley

Put all 8 on Michigan, and then storm down the old warpath do-or-die, MI-OH-KY-TN-AR.  If that's all successful, end turn. If not, await further orders. Thanks, Joe Smiley

EDIT: if that run is successful, tactical move NV-OR. Thx

Put all 9 on OR. Then attack, do-or-die, OR-CA-AZ-NM-TX-LA-MS. If that sequence is successful, end turn. Otherwise, await further orders. Thanks Joe Smiley

Everything on NY. Let's give it all we got, NY-PA-WV-KY-TN-MO-KS-OK-NM-AZ-CA. Do or die. Then await further orders.

I think maybe both of us are underestimating our own chances, cuz I'm not at all optimistic haha.

Just a bit of playful banter there Smiley

Trading in the following card set:

That should give me 2 battalions on KS, along with 10 more (for a total of 13) wherever I want. Of those 13, put 2 more on KS (for a total of 5 in that state), and 11 on MA (for a total of 12 there). Attack, do-or-die, KS-MO-TN and MA-RI-CT-NY. If I take everything, end turn; if not, await further orders. Thanks, Joe Smiley

All on NY. Let's go, do-or-die, NY-PA-OH-KY-TN-AR-TX-NM-AZ-NV-ID-OR. Upon reaching Oregon or running out of battalions, end turn. Thanks, Joe Smiley

Congratulations, Hagrid! Definitely a well-deserved victory on your part. And then I also want to thank both Joe and the other players for participating in what was a very enjoyable game of Risk -- it couldn't've happened without you guys.

Look forward to observing the next game, and then hopefully playing again at some point in the future!
