An Act to Loosen Alcohol Policies

1. The legal age to purchase, sell, and consume alcohol in Lincoln shall be 18 years of age.
2. This act shall take effect 1 month after passage.

Occupying: Government Slot 1 of 12

In response to criticism in the previous council, I've stripped out the most controversial section of the bill, which repealed all regulations on alcohol in Public Places. With that taken care of, I hope we can approve this sensible bill to align alcohol consumption with the natural age of adulthood.

After the Vietnam War, the age was lowered to 18 and there was a surge in drunk driving incidents, which is why they increased it to 21.

After some further consideration, I will not support this bill. The potential for increased drunk driving fatalities cannot be ignored. Drinking alcohol is not a right.

I endorse this legislation. The evidence does not show an increase in irresponsible behavior, indeed it encourages safer drinking. 18 gets the balance right and it is good to expand liberties.
