Good Evening, ladies and gentlemen, from our new studio here in Bismarck, North Dakota. It's been a long, long time since the Mideast Record-Courier took to the airwaves - almost exactly a year, in fact - but with candidates for president turning up everywhere like vaguely familiar cousins at a family reunion, I just couldn't resist. For the next three weeks, this paper will provide semi-regular coverage of the unfolding presidential campaign, as well as races for Congress and local races across the country, culminating in live coverage of the vote election weekend.

Let's make this one for the books.

BULLETIN

Peebs, DFW leave the race; Never Again Declares Candidacy.
Hours after entering the race for president, Representative Peebs (Labor-South) withdrew from the Labor primary to clear the way for Speaker of the House Never Again. The House Speaker and twice gubernatorial candidate announced his candidacy a few minutes before ten o'clock Eastern Time, accompanied by his running mate, fellow Representative and Bayou State populist Southern Gothic.

Meanwhile, Southern Governor DFW Libertylover likewise withdrew from the race and returned to the Federalist Party hours after announcing an independent campaign for the White House. The governor gave no reason for the abrupt suspension of his campaign.

LABOR PRIMARY ELECTION
LIVE COVERAGE • FEB 4 - 7

Good evening, and welcome to the Mideast-Record Courier's live coverage of the February 2017 Labor presidential primary. The polls have been open nearly three hours now, and already just under a sixth of the party's membership have voted for one of the three candidates contesting the nomination; as of the most recent ballot, the race stands as follows:

FOR PRESIDENT - LABOR PRIMARY (16% Turnout)
Never Again    6 (54.5%)
Peebs    4 (36.4%)
Santander    1 (9.1%)

Speaker of the House Never Again, the presumed frontrunner, narrowly leads the pack with 55% of the vote after trailing Representative Peebs early in the balloting. Currently, the Speaker is polling strongest in his native South, while Peebs holds a narrow plurality in the Northern Region; as of this hour, the Commonwealth of Fremont is tied with one vote for each of the major candidates. Thus far, Delegate Santander has received just one vote, from the State of Wisconsin.

I DID AN INDEPENDENT STUDY

as of Delegate OneJ_'s vote, the totals were
Speaker NeverAgain: 8, 57%
Secretary Peebs: 4, 29%
Delegate Santander: 2 , 14%
Total: 14
Registered: 67
Turnout: 21%

Fremont:
Speaker NeverAgain: 2, 67%
Secretary Peebs: 1, 33%
Total: 3
Registered: 21
Turnout: 14%

North:
Secretary Peebs: 2, 50%
Speaker NeverAgain: 1, 25%
Delegate Santander: 1 , 25%
Total: 4
Registered: 21
Turnout: 19%

South:
Speaker NeverAgain: 5, 71%
Secretary Peebs: 1, 14%
Delegate Santander: 1 , 14%
Total: 7
Registered: 25
Turnout: 28%

The entirety of Speaker NeverAgain's margin comes from the South, with a 4-vote lead. The Speaker also has a 1-vote lead in Fremont, but is down by 1 vote in the North.

In Fremont and his native South, the Speaker is firmly in the lead with two thirds of the popular vote, while Representative Peebs and Delegate Santander poll strongest in the North, where Governor Mike Wells endorsed the Peebs/LLR ticket.

LABOR PRESIDENTIAL PRIMARY - RESULTS

Never Again (62%)     Peebs (24%)     Santander (14%)

* METHODOLOGY    Shading at 70% indicates a majority of votes cast for the winning candidate, 40% indicates a tie broken in favor of the regional winner, and 50% indicates a state where no votes were cast (also awarded to the regional winner).

RACE FOR THE SENATE
FEBRUARY 2017 - CLASS I

SEATS     FED (1)        LAB (2)        IND (0)
GAINS     FED (0)        LAB (0)        IND (0)

We're here live at the Mideast Record-Courier's headquarters in Bismarck, North Dakota bringing you up-to-the-hour coverage of the ongoing senatorial election. While the presidential campaign will carry on for another week, in two regions voting has already begun in elections for the Senate, and early returns are promising for incumbents on both sides of the aisle.

FREMONT SENATE (22% Turnout)
Siren [IND] 8, 61.5%
Dereich [FED] 3, 23.1%
1184AZ [LAB] 1, 7.7%
Enduro [FED] 1, 7.7%

As of the latest vote, incumbent Senator Siren leads the field comfortably with just over three fifths of the vote, with the remaining two fifths divided among a number of write-in candidates. As of this hour, we are not able to project the outcome of this race, but if early numbers do look promising for Ms. Siren.

SOUTHERN SENATE (34% Turnout)
PiT [FED] 14, 63.6%
Peebs [LAB] 8, 36.4%

Meanwhile, in the South, incumbent Senator PiT leads Representative and former presidential contender Peebs by a similarly wide margin, 64% to 36%. With just over a third of the vote in at this hour, there remains a possibility for either candidate to pull victory out of the bag, though Senator PiT certainly has the edge in this historically conservative region.

With the first day of balloting behind us, Senators Siren of Fremont and PiT of the South maintain heavy leads over their several challengers in the ongoing senatorial elections. As of this hour, Senator Siren leads her various opponents with close to two thirds of the vote, while PiT nearly doubles his Labor challenger, North Carolina's Peebs. No projection is being made in either race at the moment.

FREMONT SENATE (24% Turnout)
Siren [IND] 9, 64.2%
Dereich [FED] 3, 21.4%
1184AZ [LAB] 1, 7.1%
Enduro [FED] 1, 7.1%

SOUTHERN SENATE (37% Turnout)
PiT [FED] 15, 62.5%
Peebs [LAB] 9, 37.5%

I haven't traditionally reported on party leadership campaigns, but I certainly can if y'all are interested. It will just be the numbers, though, as I generally refrain from projecting the outcomes of elections in which I am a candidate (for obvious reasons).

We now bring you a special bulletin on the state of the ongoing Labor Party leadership election.

FOR CHAIR - LABOR PARTY
Blair   11, 78.6%
LLR   3, 21.4%

FOR DEPUTY CHAIR - LABOR PARTY
Truman   11, 78.6%
Wells   3, 21.4%

Odd sense of deju vu here.

North Governor challenging sitting Labor chair in February.

Having crossed the midway mark of the election a few hours ago, voting continues in earnest across the South, where incumbent Senator PiT has widened his lead over Labor challenger Peebs in the last twelve hours. While the senator's share of the vote has fallen slightly since the last bulletin, his overall lead has increased to seven votes, one more than when we last reviewed the race late in the night Friday.

SOUTHERN SENATE (45% Turnout)
PiT [FED] 18, 62.1%
Peebs [LAB] 11, 37.9%

So far, the balloting has been fairly predictable, with conservative voters breaking for PiT and Laborites turning out for Peebs. It remains to be seen whether Peebs has the necessary support among independent and third party voters to counteract the strong Federalist advantage in this region.
