Jackie Bradley Jr. signs 2 year, $24 million deal with the Milwaukee Brewers

Quote
Center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. plans to sign a two-year, $24 million deal with the Milwaukee Brewers that includes an opt-out after the first year, a source familiar with the contract told ESPN.

That Brewers Outfield looks pretty good right now.

The duo of Lorenzo Cain and Christian Yelich are two of the best in the league, and the pair of Avisail Garcia and Jackie Bradley Jr, might be the best third/fourth outfielder in the National League.

Following Governor Abbott lifting all covid restrictions in Texas, the Rangers will become the first US sports team to allow a full-capacity crowd on Opening Day:

After fifteen seasons, Nick Markakis is retiring.

Quote
After a 15-year career that came up just short of the World Series, Nick Markakis has retired.

Markakis spent his first nine years with the Baltimore Orioles before moving to his hometown Atlanta Braves for his final six seasons.

The 37-year-old outfielder helped the Braves through a difficult rebuilding process that paid off with three straight National League East titles.

A free agent after last season, Markakis told The Athletic in a story published Friday that he was done playing after accumulating 2,388 hits, earning his lone All-Star selection in 2018 and closing out his career in Game 7 of the NL Championship Series.

I refuse to believe that there are Rays fans in SE Georgia. There are barely Rays fans in the Tampa area.

There are also apparently no White Sox or Angels fans.

To be fair, this is a "most popular team" map. I believe that the Dodgers and Cubs are the most popular teams in their respective areas, moreso than the Angels or White Sox. I believe SeatGeek uses market data and ticket purchases to get this information anyway, which is a flawed way of measuring how many fans are in one area. For instance, I'm a Red Sox fan in Lancaster County, PA, but I will only buy tickets to Phillies and Orioles games. Does that mean I measure as a Phillies or Orioles fan? I only buy those tickets because they are the most convenient for me to drive to.

With one day to go before Opening Day, Francisco Lindor will be staying a Met, as he signed a 10-year extension worth $341 million.

ESPN:

Quote
The New York Mets and shortstop Francisco Lindor have agreed to a 10-year, $341 million deal, a source told ESPN's Jeff Passan on Wednesday.

Lindor's deal will be the third largest based on total value in major league history, trailing only the deals for the Los Angeles Angels' Mike Trout ($426.5 million) and the Los Angeles Dodgers' Mookie Betts ($365 million).

Three cheers for being a Red Sox fan living in the Orioles market so I'm blacked out from Opening Weekend! And I can't even watch Phillies, Nationals, or Pirates games because I'm in their markets as well!

Reds-Cardinals might be a good one though.

Pirates 58-104 this year and we still might not get the first pick next year in the draft.

I’m a Cubs fan living in Brewers territory, so I just switched TV providers to prevent being blacked out from all of the Cubs-Brewers games coming up.  Now I’m good to go.  Happy Opening Day everyone!

I also refuse to believe that there are Marlins fans north of Jupiter. Hell, there are barely any Marlins fans to begin with.

Opening Day will come for everyone except the Red Sox, who foolishly continue to play in a "historic stadium" instead of a beautiful, weather-resistant dome like their AL East betters.

I hate having that day off right after opening day, such a buzzkill.  I guess this is why they do it though.  White Sox had many cold outs/snow outs and ended upp taking advantage of it.

Happy opening day Atlas baseball fans.

It won't come for the Nationals either, as their opener vs. the Mets has been postponed due to COVID issues (with the Nats).

Baseball is really unwatchable now that teams have realized they don't even need to pretend to be trying to win. At least when the Pirates were terrible fifteen years ago it was because they didn't know what they were doing, not on purpose.

Bob Nutting is one of the worst owners in sports, in my opinion.

Mariners come back from a 6-1 deficit in the bottom of the 8th to win 8-7 in the 10th inning on a walk-off walk? This is going to be a good* year, I can feel it.

*By good, I mean we might finish above .500 for the year.

pain.

I mean we knew our bullpen was complete horses**t but didn't think it would be this much complete horsesh**t. 7 recorded outs against 7 walks and an HPB, jfc.
