Well, that suxx.

Recovering the bodies will be really tough, considering the area. I live in a similar area myself and have been up on the mountains between 1500-3000m quite often, also in very bad conditions. Even if some people survived the crash up there (which I doubt), they would have a hard time surviving because it can get -15°C up there during the night and they are most likely injured too, heavily. It will take the alpine rescuers a few days to get up there and helicopters are virtually unable to land on this snowy and scattered terrain ...

There is now new info about the crash site. Previously, the French media said the plane crashed at 2000m, in a snowy area.

Meanwhile, the crash site was located on a lower elevation and without snow.

From this picture, it looks like the rescue people are already there and might have it easier to recover the bodies than it was originally thought.

Yeah, this is odd.

I thought this was changed after 9/11 ?

I'm pretty sure I had to show my passport at the Salzburg airport when I took my flight from Salzburg to New York, via Frankfurt in 2011.
