Which presidential campaigns did have the strongest and the worst closing 10 days before the election?

I would actually rank 2016 pretty high. It went bad for Clinton with the Comey letter, while Trump actually had a good finish, given he stayed on message and was convinced to temporary control his worst instincts. Another contender for a poor finish is actually Nixon in 1968. He was the favorite since at least the summer, but nearly ended up losing.

Gerald Ford had momentum towards the end and maybe could've taken the 1976 election with a little more time (and no debate gaffe).

2016 I actually took off the last two weeks of the election to volunteer full time, knowing ahead of time that the last two weeks was going to be the most crucial time period where Clinton would need help the most. On literally my first day of phone banking, the Comey Letter came out.

1980 has to the all time best and worst given that Carter had clawed himself back from a massive deficit to be within striking distance, and then the debate happens and Reagan skyrockets back up in the polls
