Do we really need more underwater basket weaving majors who shouldn't be in college?

The top majors in America, are nursing, business, engineering majors.

Humanities majors have been on the decline for some time now.

Looking forward to America becoming Canada 2.0.

Disgusting, we definitely leave a lot of talent out but this is gonna prop up the soon to fail small town college industry .
Even worse, this will massively hike the enrollment of community colleges and put a strain on them if Junior colleges include community colleges and I guarantee that fraudsters will try to start junior diploma mill colleges.

Isn't that what happened with Heald College and ITT technical insitute ? And others such as the University of Phoenix ?

Also, I was thinking; would online colleges count as colleges in the US? Let's say some guy from India decides to enroll into the Penn State World Campus and despite never setting foot in the US, he would get a green card via his graduation under this plan; wouldn't he?
Hell what's stopping people from just enrolling in University of Phoenix or Southern New Hampshire University?

Nah, the way Trump would set it up would be that they all enroll in Trump University.

It's a great way for him to grift enough cash to pay off the hundreds of millions of fines he owes for his violations of the law.

Win-win for him and the immigrants.

As someone who broadly supports this idea in theory, it would need to be for people who came here to America to attend in person and didn't get into any trouble during their 4 years here, not someone who just signed up online from the other side of the world and got their degree entirely over there.

Also there is an issue that it would be a perfect way for Russia and China to infiltrate deep cover intelligence agents into America and get them U.S. citizenship.

Which, come to think of it, is probably why Trump likes this idea.

The funny thing is we actually need more low-skilled workers to do tough jobs for less pay that Americans don’t want to do. Yet those are who Trump wants to deport while he wants to limit higher-paying jobs for Americans by letting immigrants come here, benefit from our world class education, and stick around to take our jobs rather than go back to their home countries to benefit the globe.

Just another example of totally backwards thinking from this buffoon.

Trump has never been a serious political thinker though. Heck, Even Reagan was more " serious ", and had a Governing Record, as Governor of California.

Literally, Trump is the most simpleton President we ever had. He's no Reagan. Eisenhower. HW Bush. Or even W. Bush.

Just compare, Trump to Eisenhower. Total difference.

Its not a real proposal and will never happen.  Just Trump riffing.

If Biden had made this comment, you be raving about Democrats were selling America to foreigners. Be more consistent.

I’m always consistent.  Spend less time trying to read minds.

You're really not though. Trump has clearly turned far more establishment since all the legal troubles, why are you so sure he's lying here? Are you really that negatively polarized?

He's just lying.  He's been lying for 8 years and telling people whatever they want to hear.  He hasn't all of a sudden become establishment.  He has no ideology.

Tech bro Types aren’t the establishment and they are the only people who’s really support this policy . The establishment wouldn’t because doing so would require getting rid of chain migration and making student visa rules stricter which they absolutely would not want to do .

Also it’s undeniable Trump this time has been more influenced by tech bro types than he was in 2016/2020 and while Congress would never pass this policy regardless of what Trump wants , it does not mean he won’t be influenced by tech bros .

People get degrees outside of tech fields all the time though. It would affect way more than "tech bros"

I'm an Obama style moderate on borders. And I care about universal healthcare and other domestic matters more. If Democrats go full on Gottheimer maybe I'll turn into a swing voter, but I doubt that happens. There's more to life than immigration.

When Trump was president he enforced a policy where students who did not have any in person classes were not eligible for student visas that semester (this was during COVID when many colleges were online). There were of course obvious loopholes that some colleges were happy to use.

Rare Trump W, but if you like this policy and want it enacted, you're better off voting for Biden and a Democratic Congress.

Absolutely not.
Trump will get this beautiful policy enacted and Biden will never be able to.

We've literally already done this. He made the same proposal 4 years ago when he ran the first time, and under the unified Republican government of 2017-2019 the proposal was never mentioned again.

Funny how many posters have mentioned Canada and the grifting diploma mills that caused even small towns to be overwhelmed with young Punjabis. I'm the only Canadian to comment here.

A major cause for the surge in diploma mills in Ontario is because the Ford provincial government cut funding for community colleges and cut tuition for local students. He also cut the previous Liberal government's ban on community colleges contracting out their teaching to private colleges.

Result: community colleges entered into franchising agreements with private colleges located in strip malls or otherwise dead suburban shopping malls. They created programs that had no real purpose, and an entire pipeline from recruiting agents in small towns in the Punjab was built. Some tech bro even created a platform to facilitate all this. And the cherry on top? Many owners of these private colleges also made big donations (by Canadian standards) to Ford's PC Party.

If Trump really implemented this, you'd see this happen on a truly astonishing scale. Trump University would enter into franchising agreements with community colleges in random small towns, charging $100000 per head. And if they weren't run by Trump himself, the owners of these private colleges would funnel big bucks to him.

The Trudeau government in Ottawa finally started a crackdown on student visas earlier this year, and new arrivals are sharply down. But it will take years for the problem to resolve itself.

We like to joke that Doug Ford is a mini Trump. This would turn Trump into a giant Ford.

Doubt it. Anyone who still likes him in June 2024 is doing so for personality reasons, not policy.

There are diploma mills that have those majors. And under this proposal, there would obviously be more joke degrees awarded.

Anybody who actually takes Trump seriously on this is a moron. Trump takes virtually every side of virtually every issue (such as he understands them), sometimes in the space of two minutes.

Simpleton is hard to determine given that Trump is clearly deranged. However, he's certainly the most ignorant of public policy by a mile, even compared to George W Bush.

Good policy decision for Trump. Never thought I would see a world where Trump would actually be better on a position than Biden, on immigration of all things. Congress should enact a bill that would grant all college students to have a green card attached to their diplomas. Biden should be proposing this policy, not signing legislation that Trump would have signed in 2018.

This characterizes Trump position on immigration, he wants to stimulate High-Education migrants to stay in USA, while repressing lower-education and lower-income migration.

Not surprising, his Latino base in Florida is a bunch of Wealthy and White-ish Latino elites. Definitely a different groups than the ones from southern border states.

Funny how even some Atlas democrats are turning around regarding Trump, actually buying him as a moderate because of this lmao. Shows how the landslide later this year will be bigger than expected if a bunch of Trump’s opposition is seeing him as less of an extremist and more of a moderate reasonable Republican.

It will be extremely funny if besides the democrat base, even the White supremacist base of Trump begins seeing him as a moderate traitor too. Trump likes people who like him, so it would be an entertaining plot twist if he were to turn against them out of resentment but that’s being delusional.

This is a great proposal that Trump will never implement.

A paradox with Trump is that he shouldn't be taken at his word with babble like this, but should be dead seriously considered when he says something relating to his megalomania. He is a pathological liar, but also completely shameless in his desire to become an autocratic dictator.

For too many Americans those two extremes that exist simultaneously are too much to be recognized, unfortunately.
