At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.S. military launched a secret campaign to counter what it perceived as China’s growing influence in the Philippines, a nation hit especially hard by the deadly virus.

The clandestine operation has not been previously reported. It aimed to sow doubt about the safety and efficacy of vaccines and other life-saving aid that was being supplied by China, a Reuters investigation found. Through phony internet accounts meant to impersonate Filipinos, the military’s propaganda efforts morphed into an anti-vax campaign. Social media posts decried the quality of face masks, test kits and the first vaccine that would become available in the Philippines – China’s Sinovac inoculation.

Reuters identified at least 300 accounts on X, formerly Twitter, that matched descriptions shared by former U.S. military officials familiar with the Philippines operation. Almost all were created in the summer of 2020 and centered on the slogan #Chinaangvirus – Tagalog for China is the virus.

US is also a producer of vaccines, like China. By stimulating anti-vaxx and anti-science sentiment the Pentagon also stimulated indirectly for people to be suspicious of US-produced vaccines too, which is against US interests.

Not to mention that internal audiences are the most affected by this stuff. Chinese will be subjected to mostly Chinese vaccines and Americans to American vaccines. In USA the anti-vaxx sentiment was much harsher, which only prejudices who exactly to stimulate these thoughts? Which countries had the largest level of unvaccinated audience? USA at one point was even donating or throwing their vaccines on the trash because of the lower demand than expected domestically.

I see that it in social media it was foreign countries like Philippines the most targeted but in social media there aren’t borders these days. You say something like “Chinese vaccines are dangerous” than it easily morphs into “Vaccines are dangerous” (or as Bolsonaro said once, that vaccination will give you AIDS) and into “Masks are a form of government control” and “Drinking Bleach is more effective than vaccines” regardless of borders as everyone freely interacts with one another these days.

The part where they claimed that Chinese vaccines contained pork gelatin to dissuade their use in predominately Muslim nations was really the lowest of the low. Military psy-ops are nothing new, but this crosses so many lines that whoever ordered this should be sent to Fort Leavenworth.
