This is quite surprising given that Hogan refused to support Trump in 2016, 2020, and even now

Also because his endorsement will probably hurt Hogan in MD

Hogan rejected the endorsement, saying he has “no interest” in it

"We have to straighten out our country. So, I'd like to see him when he's somebody that can win. I would. I know other people made some strong statements, but I can just say from my standpoint, I'm about the party and I'm about the country. And I would like to see him win," the former president said.

Asked if he is endorsing Hogan, Trump responded that "nobody's asked me that. But, essentially, I would be endorsing. Yeah."

Might as well give Hogan a kiss of death, he's not winning anyway...

If he wins and wants to do anything that doesn't have Dem support he needs the Senate so it makes sense but it probably took a lot to swallow his pride here.

This reminds me of Dick Cheney endorsing McCain a few days before the 2008 election.
This is Trump flipping the bird to Hogan, not helping him to win the race.

So, Hogan now loses by 25 instead of 20.

"Endorsed by Trump" is now all Alsobrooks really needs to say anymore.

I remember he did this once to screw over a Congressman trying to get re-elected in a double-digit Clinton district. Hilariously petty.

I don't know if Trump is willing to accept that he is unpopular in certain parts of the country to do this ironically.

Yeah I don't think he did it in an attempt to screw over Hogan, nor do I think it's a net negative for Hogan.

No, it was deliberate.

Quote
We know that Trump doesn’t admit mistakes or commit sins. It’s not in his personality or good for his brand to acknowledge any weakness. But, according to Politico’s Tim Alberta, the president endorsed a vulnerable member of Congress in an intentional effort to weaken his candidacy.

“In one case, Trump endorsed as a means of punishment. Having heard that Minnesota congressman Erik Paulsen was distancing himself from the White House in the hope of holding his seat in the Twin Cities’ suburbs, the president stewed and asked that the political shop send a tweet of support for Paulsen — thereby sabotaging the moderate Republican’s efforts,” according to an excerpt in Alberta’s new book “American Carnage,” shared with Axios.

“When his aides demurred, Trump sent the tweet himself, issuing a ‘Strong Endorsement!’ of the congressman in a late-night post that left Paulsen fuming and his Democratic opponent giddy.”

Hogan quite possibly garnered more raw votes from registered Democrats than Republicans in his re-election bid, Trump attempting to rally the base is trolling

This is a perfunctory endorsement of a party nominee.  Trump isn't going to do anything for Hogan.  And Hogan isn't wanting him to do anything on his behalf.

Yeah, Erik Paulsen of Minnesota, lmao.

Not quite the same though because Paulsen's race could be characterized as semi competitive. This, otoh, is gonna be a blowout for Democrats either way - Trump's endorsement will only widen their margin even more.
