Which of the 50 largest metro areas (MSAs) in the U.S. have you been to?  Rankings are from 2023 Census estimates.  You must have spent some time there (even if just a few hours) doing something other than driving or flying through.

I've been to a bare majority (26), have driven through eight others, and had airport layovers in an additional two.

33, but 21 of the top 25 and 25 of the top 30.

Missing Houston (clearly not the only one who hasn't been), MSP, Portland, St. Louis, and Sacramento from the top 30.

I've been to 28. I'm not sure what will ever bring me to Grand Rapids, Birmingham, Oklahoma City, Jacksonville, Columbus, or Indianapolis (perhaps a Butler game?), but hope to get around to the other missing ones soon!

By Time Spent, with some ad hoc weighting for recency and distance from downtown:

1) New York
2) Philadelphia
3) Virginia Beach
4) Washington

5) Baltimore
6) Chicago
7) Las Vegas
8) Boston
9) Los Angeles
10) Salt Lake City

11) Phoenix
12) Denver
13) San Francisco-Oakland
14) Orlando
15) Houston
16) Riverside-San Bernardino
17) Dallas-Fort Worth
18) Kansas City
19) Atlanta
20) Austin
21) Charlotte
22) San Jose
23) San Antonio
24) Richmond

25) San Diego
26) Fresno
27) Buffalo
28) Providence

6: New York (several times), DC (many times), Boston (several times), Orlando (once as an infant visiting Disney World), Charlotte (had Thanksgiving dinner with Miles Coleman and his family one year and got a brief tour in his car), and Virginia Beach (lived in; Hell on earth).

I'm so untraveled and East Coast-centric it's depressing.

It's strangely appropriate for a political forum that Washington DC is currently in first place.

I should probably have included Columbus (OH) since I spent time in Worthington. I wasn't sure if I can include DFW as I had a layover there and a cancelled flight and had a to stay a a nearby hotel.

Twenty-nine. A contributing factor in why I've been to so many of them was that during my college years, I majored in Music Education, and I participated in 5 choir tours. I think 6-7 of the 29 I've been to I went to them to perform with my college choir and spent the night there.
I've driven through or had an airport transit in 10 others. That leaves 11 that I've never been to at all.

Spending the night there, even if unintentionally, should certainly qualify. Smiley

I've been to all of them, which is probably not surprising given my travels. I checked the 46 where I've spent the night in the official metro defined by the MSA. The four metros I haven't slept in are:

Tampa
Sacramento
San Jose
Richmond

I'm likely to stay in Sacto (or San Jose) in Oct.

Exactly half of them, though I might've also passed through a couple of others that I don't remember anymore.

Half, but only counting ones where I actually stood in the city proper, since I don’t feel like looking up the metro boundaries and whether I ever passed through some random suburb.

That airport in Charlotte is hands down the greatest international airport of all time.

Lots of grub.

For a brief period of time in the 2010s, was the “BWI” of the MIC.

Probably shouldn't have voted for Chicago, Denver, or Baltimore. But I did actually spend "at least a few hours" in each of those metros, even though those were all layovers or drive-throughs, and I was too young for any memories of Denver.

Have never set foot in DFW, South Florida, Boston, the Inland Empire, the Twin Cities, or Tampa.

Exactly half.

I did omit Atlanta, St. Louis, and Boston since those were just airport stops.

New York, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, DC, Philly, Riverside, Detroit, Seattle, MSP, Denver, Baltimore, San Antonio, Portland, Austin, Pittsburgh, KC, Indy, Nashville, San Jose, Virginia Beach, Raleigh, Louisville, Richmond, Memphis, SLC, Birmingham, Buffalo

28 proper visits without counting drive-throughs. Would be 27 but OP gave me permission to count the multiple times I've stayed in motels outside Indianapolis while doing cross country drives.

From poll standings right now, most common I haven't been to is Orlando, least common one I have been to is Memphis.

Going to bet I'm the only person on this board who has done trips to Riverside and San Jose without having spent any meaningful time in LA or SF.
