“I’m driving through Kansas on my way to a Kerouac reading. Are there any Stevenson precincts around here I can fill up my tank in?”

“Is the Montgomery bus boycott destroying the possibility of civil rights in the south? Many people I talk to in Staten Island say they would gladly support civil rights if not for communist backed agitators asking for too much too fast. It would be political suicide for northern Democrats to support this, especially since it’s inevitable that after the 1952 election that black voters will return to the party of Lincoln.”

I, and quite a few other posters, would almost certainly be on a file stashed away in J Edgar Hoover's office somewhere.

I don’t think anyone on atlas is important enough for that

Afaik Hoover had hundreds of thousands of suspected leftists and 'subversives' on file at one point. I did consider your point, but also considering many Atlas users are also involved in local politics? I can see it.

Edit; Nevermind, 'hundreds of thousand's was a complete understatement, he had millions indexed at one point so yeah, I am actually certain anyone expressing leftist sympathy here would've been on there.

Nah, in keeping with the anachronism of emo music, 1950s!BRTD would be fixated on swing jazz.

My mother would post as StevensonFan1918.

My oldest aunt wouldn't have been interested in joining a forum like this, otherwise she could have been StevensonFan1935. (She did vote for Stevenson in 1956, barely old enough).

My mother LOVED Adlai Stevenson.  I remember the day he died in 1965; she mentioned it at dinner and was visibly upset.  (My mother thought Adlai Stevenson was the GREATEST and was not a big fan of the Kennedys because they preempted Stevenson in 1960.)

"Go to Kansas City, fill all your tank there".

"Should the GOP support tariff in the Clay way to keep the Midwest after Ike?"

"Will Adam Clayton Powell Jr. become a liberal republican?"

"Is Missouri an economically progressive state? Could Humphrey win it?"

"Will Philadelphia go back to their old ways or the union wing will save the democrat day?"

"How populist are Arkansas and Georgia? Could a pro-civil rights liberal win them?"

"Will Montana become the ultimate swing state?"
