What would happen if Smotrich becomes PM when Netanyahu retires?

I mean, really bad things, most likely. It would essentially be like an MTG presidency.

Of the two heads of the Israeli far-right, Ben-Gvir is far more likely to ever be PM than Smotrich. Smotrich's appeal is inherently narrowed by his religiosity. Ben-Gvir, while religious, is far more appealing to more secular nationalists. Smotrich is very much concerned with moral crusades like being anti-gay, anti-Reform Judaism, and being pro-Halakha. These issues, centrally the last one, are totally unpalatable to most Israelis, and many right-wingers as well. Ben-Gvir is more focused on on ethnic nationalism which appeals to the Chardal as well as less religious and irreligious nationalists. Think of this way, for many Likud voters (most of whom are not terribly religious), Smotrich is much too religious, but Ben-Gvir is perfectly acceptable.

Also from what Ive heard is that Smotrich is somewhat stupid.

Is there any specific examples by the way ? Like I hear this about Smotrich but never about Ben Gvir so I assume it is somewhat true.

Unfortunately, that has not always proved to be a bar to getting elected.

Makes managing that required coalition a lot harder and as KD said probably means if either far right figure ever got it , it would be Ben Gvir

Question: would anybody have predicted Naftali Bennet entering the moderate coalition as PM in 2013?

I know that he was considered a hardliner before then - but to the extent of Smotrich or Ben-Gvir?

Yeah, definitely not. He was simply seen as a more religious version of Liberman, but not an extremist.

If it randomly happens:
Riots in Israel.
New elections.
Yair Lapid or Benny Gantz as PM

If his party wins a huge majority:
Some protests.
People move to othet things.
