If he wins, then 2024 is the last free and fair election.

No. Which is why I wish Democrats would wake up.

For the GOP's sake, it better not be, right? Then again, it might not matter that much. The Democratic Party might be in the middle of imploding at the moment so maybe it won't matter. That probably doesn't guarantee the Republican Party will be able to make the United States into a sort of organic dictatorship.

Most people don't want to completely privatize health care or cancel Social Security. Most people don't want zero tolerance laws on abortion or marijuana. People are interested in public health and safety to a point and I don't think most people are racist and know that we can't simply tolerate dictators.

In a way, the 2020s might be exactly like the 1850s where one party won on the issues, was run into the ground by incompetent leadership and officeholders who refused to even advance the party's agenda, this led to repeated victories by the other party, the losing party completely collapsed, and was replaced by an entirely new party that won sustainable majorities when they were able to marry popular political programs with competent leadership.

Yes because the VP cannot overturn Eday, and Newsom not Harris will certainly be the Nominee

That's what you said in 2016.

Yes but that will be in spite of Trump's desires and the fact he's not particularly competent at stuff like this and that elections are state managed and there's not much he can do about that, not because he wants it that way.

Trump is selfish and doesn't care about the next Republican. He won't care about 2028 other than perhaps the thrill of the odd campaign rally.

I want to think that Democratic Governors and Secretaries of State insure it would be in the states they control, but who knows how powerful Trump could become before then.

But the Republican power establishment who will ride in on Trump's coattails through the legislative and executive branch do care, and will use the power Trump won them to ensure this, and Trump will back them 100% out of the malicious spiteful bastard he is.

As far as the definition of free and fair, I would expect somewhere anywhere from a third to halfway between where we stand now and Orban's Hungary. Still possible for a massive Democratic backlash wave to make a difference, but it will be severely and artificially hampered by Republican suppression mechanisms.

I expect it to be, but the fact that I’m not sure of it is a bad sign.
