I guess Snohomish (especially politically), but it's hard to find a county that represents both Seattle and the Eastern parts of the state.

Snohomish isn't a bad choice. It doesn't quite have a true urban core to represent Seattle, but it has some denser areas, plenty of suburbs, rural farming areas such as Snohomish, Monroe, and Stanwood, plus mountains and Sound. But I'm biased as I'm from there.

Another candidate might be Pierce. Tacoma has more of a "true" urban core than Everett does, plus Pierce has more open farmland than Snohomish.

Whatcom or maybe Thurston are other decent options on a smaller scale. The only county east of the Cascades which could maybe get an argument is Chelan.

I only didn't choose Pierce because Tacoma is such an odd city, and doesn't really represent Seattle or any medium-sized city. While Lynnwood and Edmonds aren't the size of Seattle, I think they're more representative of medium cities in Washington than Tacoma. Agreed about the other two, especially Whatcom.

Washoe County, NV is the only one even close to representative but even then it's more swingy and less Hispanic than the state as a whole.

Depends. I guess a county like Woodbury could be used, as it balances actually having people (Sioux City) with rural cornfields. Although honestly, besides a few counties; Polk, Linn, Scott, Black Hawk, and a few more; pretty much every county in Iowa is the exact same.

However, if you know an Iowan, chances are that they come from Polk (Des Moines) or maybe Linn (Cedar Rapids).

Washoe County is a pretty good representation. You have one major area and the rest of the county area is very sparsely unpopulated, like the middle of the state.

I dunno, Williamson? Suburban, slight Republican edge, reasonably diverse....
